My name is Ken Manchester and I work for Pioneer Technical Services (Pioneer) in Butte, Montana. Pioneer is under contract with Montana Department of Environmental Sciences (DEQ) to assist them in the investigation of the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination that exists in the soil and groundwater under the town of Harlowton. As you are most likely aware, a large free product plume exists around the Central Avenue area in town and a substantial amount has been recovered over the past nine months. DEQ and Pioneer are having a meeting with property owners that have been impacted or are potentially impacted by the existing contamination to address any concerns, answer questions, and inform everyone of what we will be doing in the near future. The meeting has been scheduled for next Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, at the American Legion Post. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
Sincerely, Ken Manchester PG

The Harlowton Area Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture has signed a buy-sell to purchase the former Chevron Gas station property at the corner of Central Ave and 2nd Street NW (US 12). We would like to thank Rick Smart, the owner, for giving us an opportunity to beautify this key intersection in the heart of Harlowton.
As of November 2013 the Chamber is initiating a Capital Campaign to raise $50,000 through tax deductible contributions for the first stage of this project which is to purchase ($40,000) and clean up ($10,000) the property. The Chamber feels strongly that the need to raise the funds initially to purchase and clean up the property is extremely important and needs to be accomplished as soon as possible so the site can be cleaned up by spring.
Planning and fundraising for the second stage will be ongoing as the Chamber develops a vision for the project. The second stage will consist of grants, donations, donated labor and material to finish the project which we hope to have done by late summer of 2014.
"This is a Community Project where we can all participate. No donation is too large or too small. Your contribution helps! Please consider any ‘in-kind” contributions of labor and talents as well."
We ask that donations be made out to City of Harlowton, (memo, Smart property) who will handle the funds and then transfer to the Chamber of Commerce for the project. All donations are tax-deductible.
Bill Jones, President
